BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ORGANISATION

      The Samity is Registered under the Registration of Societies Act 1961 and started functioning from 1978. The main objective is to promote literacy movement in this backward region, populated by S.C. & S.T. people. Until now it has completed successfully implementation of Adult Education & continuing Projects sanctioned by Govt. Of India. Literacy movement has been extended under the leadership of the Samity and near About 10,000 adult in the age group of 15-35 of village have been made literate.

The Samity tried its best to perform the entrusted responsibilities sponsored by District literacy programme in 1990-91. In the meantime Midnapur district has been declared as a literate district.

Our Samity actively participate in different training programme and monitoring works in the first phase of literacy movement. We have organized

We discharged our duties in the Continue Education programme of the District Literacy Programme as we did in the first phase.

The Samity has been publishing two monthly journals “ Janasiksha Prasar” in Bengali & “ Sagen sounta” in Santali for the neoliterates. Also published ten books for them. Efforts are being made to developed more literature for the purpose.

The audio visual Unit of the Samity is also trying to cater the need of the literacy movement & awareness building to the rural people.

Twenty five early Childhood Centers are being run with the financial help of the Govt. of India.

Training of 500 rural youth of Masonry, Doll making, Horticulture, Electric wiring, Motor cycle & Pump set repairing have completed with the financial help of the Govt. of India, Dept. of Sports & Youth. Also approved training Center for DRDA & SUDA.

Our Samity’s secretary trained ATLP AT Bangla Desh and represent State as NFE functionary training at NCERT, Delhi. Samity member trained at women’s development division (NIPCCD Delhi) Samity also a member of District literacy executive committees.

We have started training cum production center financed by  Food processing Dept. Govt. of West Bengal.

Building center movement is been initiated by us with financial assistance from HUDCO. Eastern Region.

We are implementing sanitation Program of UNICEF and Govt. of India. Also propagating solar energy system in this region.

We have started Computer training Center. Franchised by WEBEL Informatics Ltd. (Govt. of West Bengal Enterprise).

1)  EDUCATION PROGRAMME

a) E.C.E. Programme :- At first Govt. of India informed us that E.C.E. Pogramme not to be extended beyond eighth plan period. Requested State Govt. to absord the trained instructors & helpers at I.C.D.S Project. Again they informed us E.C.E. Programme will be extended upto 9th plan period i.e. upto 2002 in non I.C.D.S. area. Due to this dilemma we have not received grant from the Govt. of India in 1996-97 &1997-98 period. As all block & municipality are covered under I.C.D.S. so we have to start E.C.E. centers at Midnapur town from April’99.

b)  Adult High School:- This school has also to face problem due to some decision of D.S.E.O. Midnapur. D.S.E.O. has saved us to close the center reason best known to him. After intervention from direction of M.E.E. the school is now regularized. We have continued running the center despite of the order to close down.

c)  Non formal Edn. Project :-  Govt. of West Bengal asked V.A.S. to submit project of N.E.E. for 9-14 yrs. Children under scheme of universalization of elementary Edn. We have submitted two projects for Nayagram & Gopi – II but Zilla Saksharata  Samity is yet to recommend it. Reason for this delay is not even communicated to us.

d) Dist Literacy programme :- Midnapur district is now running C.E.C. Programme.
We cooperating with this programme.

e)   Vocational Training :- D.R.D.A. Midnapur stopped sending TRYSEN trainees SINCE 1998. We have conducted training on tailoring, wool knitting & embroidery in collaboration with C.P. Cell I.C.V. Polytechnic. We have requested Jhargram Municipality to use our infrastructure to train beneficiaries.

f)  Audio Visual Unit :- After remaining idle for long three years this unit now started functioning. Film show are organized regularly with the help of Jhargram Cine Club.

g)  Computer Edn. & Training :- We have over come the difficulties faced by the section. Now several new courses are offered. Job works have ALSO TQAKEN UP. Two more computers are added and this section also started repaying the loan of WEBEL.

2.  FOOD PROCRESSING TRAINING CUM PRODUCTION CENTRE

            Food processing training was organized newly. Proceed food specially fruit products are becoming popular. But we have yet to run this unit on it own due to lack of marketing skill.

3.  BUILDING CENTRE

            We are one of leading building center in the state of West Bengal. We have got appreciation from HUDCO and evaluations of F.F.W. Ware going to procure machines for producing building materials efficiently.

4.  PUBLICATION

            Irregular issue of “Janasiksha Prasar” Patrika was published during this year. Govt. of W.B. has asked Zilla Saksharata Samity to purchase this paper to be used it in C.E.C. but no order was yet to be received.

5.  COLLABORATIVE PROGRAMME 

a) I.S.P. :- We are motivating people regarding sanitation as a part of dist. Programme of total sanitation organized by R.K.M. L.S.P. and Midnapur Zilla Parishad. We are working to achieve full sanitation at sankrail block and one or two G.P.S. of the other blocks. Three production centers are running.

b) Book fair :- We have taken responsibility to open book stall on new literates at Midnapur Dist Book fair organized at Jhargram. This venture was very much successful.

c) Renewable Energy Source :- In collaboration with R.K.M. L.S.P. runned Aditya we are also working on smokeless chulla & Bio gas plant. One different Solar system are installed.

d) Village Development Planning :- We are collecting base data to prepare village planning for eight LODHA, KHERIA and backward caste inhabited. Villages in collaboration with C.P. Cell I.C.V. Polytechnic Jhargram.

e) Seminars :- We are co-organizers of several cultural seminar with I.& C.A. Dept. Govt. of W.B. Role of youth club in rural development was organized as Gopi – II in collaboration with Neheru Yobak Kendra.

FUTURE PROGRAMME

a) Vocational Training :- Scheme of V.T. will be submitted to youth and sports dept. Govt. of India and training employment cum production scheme for women will be submitted to social welfare dept. Govt. of India.

b) Computer Training :- Computer Training of S.C., S.T. & O.B.C. WILL BE SUBMITTED TO Govt. of India through C.R.I. Govt. of W.B.

c) Project on total development of Lodha and Kheria will be submitted to the respective authority.

d) Seminar and demonstration of folk media on  literacy will be organized in collaboration I&C.A. Dept. Govt. of W.B.

e) Block level seminars of local club will be organized in collaboration with Neheru Yuba Kendra.

f) A scheme of social forestry will be submitted to CAPART.

g) At least two books will be published and all other will be reprinted.

h) S.P.Bhattacherjee memorial fund to be created to help the students of 1st generating learning family.
